Eric Idle
About This Event
Monty Python's Eric Idle tells his life story live and unscripted in An Evening of Idle Conversation at Her Majesty's Theatre — sixty years of comedy, with the chance to ask your own questions.
Few people have shaped modern comedy like Eric Idle. A founding member of Monty Python, he went on to create The Rutles — widely credited as the first mockumentary — and to turn a coconut-shell gag from Monty Python and the Holy Grail into Spamalot, a Tony Award-winning Best Musical. His song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life has become one of Britain's most-requested funeral songs.
An Evening of Idle Conversation is his story, told in his own words. It runs from a childhood marked by the loss of his father at Christmas 1945 and twelve years of boarding school, through Cambridge and the five fellow troublemakers who became Python, to the friendships he has loved and lost along the way — Graham Chapman, George Harrison and Robin Williams among them.
Expect fortunes made and squandered, feuds and reunions, and his reflections at 83 on why he is still looking on the bright side. The evening is unscripted, and audience members will have the chance to put their own questions to him live on stage.
Copies of his new memoir, Idle in Provence: A Brief History of Thyme, will be available on the night.
