About This Event

Barrie Kosky reimagines Kafka's The Trial as K. — a whirlwind of theatre, dance, song and Yiddish vaudeville starring Kathrin Wehlisch. Adelaide Festival 2027, Her Majesty's Theatre, Mar 4–7.

Performed in German, Yiddish and Hebrew with English surtitles.

Barrie Kosky reimagines Kafka's The Trial in a whirlwind of theatre, dance, song and Yiddish vaudeville. Starring the phenomenal Kathrin Wehlisch, this exhilarating production blends absurd comedy and tragedy in unforgettable style.

Josef K. wakes one morning to find himself under arrest for a crime that is never named, by an authority that is never seen. What follows is a descent into bureaucratic nightmare — but in Kosky's hands, the nightmare sings, dances and cracks jokes. Drawing on the cabaret and Yiddish theatre traditions that shaped the Jewish culture Kafka lived inside, K. is both a faithful and a riotously unfaithful adaptation.

One of the world's great directors returns to the Adelaide Festival with a production the European press called unmissable.
