The Cherry Orchard
About This Event
Adelaide Festival 2026 presented Simon Stone's blistering reimagining of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard at the Festival Theatre from 27 February to 1 March, transplanting the Russian masterpiece to modern-day Seoul with a powerhouse Korean cast.
Simon Stone — the Australian-Swiss director behind Yerma, Medea and the 2025 Adelaide Festival hit Innocence — returned to Adelaide Festival with a blistering reimagining of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard.
Stone transplanted the Russian classic into the high-stakes world of modern-day Seoul and the South Korean chaebol dynasties, pulsing with heartbreak, humour and the unmistakable ache of a family losing the ground beneath its feet.
Cannes Best Actress winner Doyeon Jeon and Emmy-nominated Haesoo Park (Squid Game) led a remarkable Korean ensemble, supported by associate director Hayoun Sim, set designer Saul Kim and lighting designer James Farncombe, with Min K. Shin producing.
