The Importance of Being Earnest
About This Event
Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest at Dunstan Playhouse — a sparkling new production of one of the wittiest comedies ever written.
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde — arguably the greatest English comedy ever written, presented at the Dunstan Playhouse for a strictly limited season.
Jack Worthing has invented a fictional brother called Ernest to escape the demands of country life. His friend Algernon has invented a permanently ill friend called Bunbury to escape the demands of town life. When both decide to pose as Ernest in pursuit of love, the consequences are scandalous, ridiculous and entirely Wildean.
A comedy of mistaken identity, fashionable epigrams and triumphant absurdity, this production reminds us why Wilde's wit remains unmatched 130 years on.
