Yirrmal
About This Event
Yolngu singer-songwriter Yirrmal brings his soulful acoustic voice to the Banquet Room at Adelaide Festival Centre on Sunday 7 June 2026 — a warm, close-quarters evening of songs sung in English and Yolngu Matha.
Yirrmal is one of Australia's most captivating young voices — a Yolngu singer-songwriter from Yirrkala in north-east Arnhem Land, carrying the musical legacy of his father Witiyana Marika (Yothu Yindi) and grandfather Dr M. Yunupingu into his own quietly powerful songs.
On Sunday 7 June 2026, Yirrmal plays the intimate Banquet Room at Adelaide Festival Centre for a stripped-back evening of acoustic storytelling. Drawing on his celebrated debut album Gathaŋa and new material written on country, he weaves lyrics between English and Yolngu Matha, with lush fingerpicked guitar and a voice that's been likened to Jeff Buckley and Yothu Yindi's best.
Having shared stages with Paul Kelly, John Butler, Xavier Rudd and Midnight Oil, Yirrmal performs with a rare sense of purpose — songs about family, country, love and connection that hit deep long after the last note fades.
